Our CEO Lindsay Blackett recently sat down with Andrew Bell of Bloomberg News to chat about what we’re doing to advance the craft cannabis market in Canada. When asked by Bell what the collaborative in Taber was all about, Lindsay explained that GLTC will be “focusing on premium products” to meet the growing number of people seeking high-quality cannabis, hemp and agri-foods products to improve their wellness.

He also explained how the collaborative ecosystem of GLTC is designed to eliminate the barriers to entry for small craft growers and processors who have the experience to make a premium product but are lacking the significant investment, time and support it takes to enter the market. “We’ve created a 60-acre park of which 10 acres … [will be dedicated to] full turnkey suites with everything covered.”

Craft cultivators and growers who are fortunate enough to secure one of these GLTC suites will enjoy state-of-the-art Health Canada, NHP and EU-GMP certified facilities and distribution services. They’ll also benefit from GLTC’s open solutions environment and full access to shared services such as lawyers, accountants, regulatory, licensing and municipal zoning.

When asked how the GLTC Premium Park environment compared to the classic cooperative model of the grain elevator, Lindsay explained that the similarity lies in the park’s ecosystem. To be successful, there needs to be a consistent, reliable product available to cultivators, processors and extractors. The GLTC ecosystem is uniquely designed to provide this, with a focus on developing the premium quality of product that discriminating consumers are seeking. Having it all in one place, he explains, is the only way to ensure success for everyone.
